Hyundai - Years of Car Sales

This article is about selling cars, no matter who you are. It seems like I can't leave the house these days without someone stopping and asking me about dealerships. I always find it surprising that Hyundai is such a common conversational topic these days. It used to be far more obscure, almost rarely talked about. My life really took a turn when I was featured in a popular Hyundai Dealer Association magazine and in Hyundai Dealers NJ. Since then my mailbox has been flooded with inquiries. So I guess you could call me a bit of a local celebrity, on the subject, but I don't let the attention get to my head.

One of the most common questions I get is how I got started. I usually point them to an issue of Selling Cars by Dale Blarnsmith and tell them to start reading. If you have not thumbed through each page of Selling Cars, then you need to wait longer before you work the showroom floor. However, starting these days has become as a much simpler process than it was for me. Just to give you an idea, I had to undergo rigorous training, shadow a car salesman, and even hand out Hyundai pamphlets before I could even think about diving in. These days, everything you ever wanted to know about Hyundai cars is just a click away.

Frankly, today's car dealers such as New Jersey Hyundai Dealerships are just not the same because they lack the dedication we had. You new guys have too much information, and you're always looking for the golden egg. Here are some questions I hear every single week:

-Where should I shop for a Hyundai?

-What books about cars should I be reading?

-What can I do to sell cars better?

And the list goes on and on.

Take it from a pro who has been around the block many times and most of these pro are coming from New Jersey Hyundai Dealers. Car sales has nothing to do with how good of a car dealer you are on the first or second time through it. It's more about really just diving into the material and discovering something new each time around. Most people who try to sell Hyundai cars fail their first time, and so did I. Although they were helpful, my colleagues who introduced me to my life's work were probably filled with remorse because I simply could not stop talking about it all. It was too exciting for me. The day everything changed for me is when I STOPPED reading cars.com, autotrader.com, carmax.com looking for the best sales pitch ever created and started listening to my customers and helping them with the resources already at my disposal.

Practically overnight, I saw my fear of being a pushy salesman disappear, and I started seeing the results that I wanted to see. Although I coach people to sell Hyudai cars professionally, only 30% of my job is actually teaching them about Hyundai vehicles. What's left, the 70 is merely a matter of sweat, tears, and anguish. Your clients need to know what kind of commitment this is and follow through with it. The world's best car dealer is not the guy or girl who never makes mistakes. They probably repeated your mistakes more often than you have but the difference is that if they don't sell any cars today or even not sell any for the next 2 weeks they learn. That's what separates the virtuoso from the amateur car dealer.
